Hannah Twinkletoes ...

The following recipe is just great for children to learn with, although an adult must attend the oven.  I would advise keeping the ingredients on hand so that the are readily availble when the rainy days come and the children are rampaging around the hole.  It is a very simple recipe that requires very little clean up.  Of course, you will have to mind the oven, but that chore is certainly worth a cookie or two in reward.

Rainy Day Cookies

You will need: a large baking sheet with sides and the patience of a saint.

Ingredients & Preparations

Preheat the oven to 350°f.

Layer each ingredient in the order given:

  1. 1 Stick of butter, melted in the baking pan and cooled to room temperature before giving it to the children
  2. 2 Cups of plain granola, chopped to semi-fine texture
  3. 1 - 12 ounce package of milk-chocolate chips (for grownups you can subsitute dark semi-sweet chocolate bits)
  4. 1 Cup sweetened shredded Coconut (for adults I advise unsweetened)
  5. 1 Cup chopped pecans (or coursely chopped Macadamia nuts for the more adult variety)
  6. 1 can of sweetened condensed milk

Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes and allow to cool completely before cutting into 2 inch squares.

**WARNING** Once you have 'helped' to make these you should expect a house full of children every time there is even the smallest cloud on the distant horizon.

These last two recipes are from Sauve.  Well, I asked Sauve to give us a recipe but she told me that champions don't write recipes down.  She also refused to pose for a portrait unless she could wear her armour. When I asked if she cooked in her armour she told me 'No. But it is the armour or nothing.'  Since nothing seems a little risqué for a cookbook I decided that we didn't need a portrait after all.

To make a long story short, we compromised.  She cooked while I watched and took notes.  Then we ate!
